History
The Pilates method of exercise has its origins in the work of the late Joseph Pilates, who was born in 1880 in Germany. He was a frail child and turned to physical fitness programmes to improve his body image. Adopting a regime that incorporated many aspects of other fitness methods he developed a series of exercises into a complete body-conditioning programme. His studio in New York attracted the 'elite' of New York with leading ballet dancers and screen legends such as Gregory Peck and Katharine Hepburn, and today Pilates is still the preferred work-out regime for leading personalities from the worlds of entertainment and sport.
Body Control Pilates®
Body Control Pilates® exercises are adapted from the ‘classical’ exercises developed by Joseph Pilates, which are often too strenuous for the average person. In order to work safely and effectively and to gain the full benefits of Pilates, Body Control Pilates® provides a progressive approach to developing the strength & flexibility required to work towards the classical, more advanced work. Its consistent success has brought it to the attention of osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists.
